The most popular places to visit at night are:
• Av. 24 de Julho – a long avenue with many bars and discos, usually very busy at night and not very far from Docas;
• Bairro Alto – an old quarter and the favorite among many nightlife lovers. Here you will find restaurants that stay open until late, with a huge selection of typical Portuguese and international cuisine, and plenty of fado houses, cafés and discos. In the fado houses you can savor the excellent local cooking and listen to the emotional music of Lisbon, and that will make your night unforgettable!
• Docas (Doca de Alcântara) is one of the liveliest nightlife areas in Lisbon, with plenty of restaurants, bars, street cafés and discos, in a beautiful scenario by the river;
• Parque das Nações – in the spot where the Expo 98 took place, it is the most modern part of the city, with nice buildings and a great view to the Tagus river. Here you can find one disco, many bars and trendy restaurants with Portuguese and international cuisine.
After some bar hopping until 4 am, the locals head to the clubs, so to really enjoy your night in Lisbon, it’s recommended that you arrive between 2 am and 4 am at the clubs. Most clubs have large spacious areas, some are warehouses converted into discos, where you can dance to some modern beats downstairs, relax to an alternative soundtrack upstairs or watch the luminous city on the rooftop terrace; some are open throughout the day, so you can wine and dine at the restaurant, whilst listening to jazz that is normally performed live; some are restricted, with a very selective entrance and you have to reserve in advance. So, it’s wise to get advise from a local to make sure you go to the place you really fancy.
While bar hopping remember that Lisbon is quite a sight after nightfall and you do NOT want to miss that! So take a walk to one of the numerous “miradouros” of the city and take a good look at Lisbon attractions, lit up for you to enjoy the scenic views.
Enjoy Lisbon night life and be happy!
